Recycled PET-Art by Veronika Richterová

Czech artist and sculptor Veronika Richterová creates stunning art pieces and beautifully ornate chandeliers, using only discarded PET plastic bottles she recovered in the garbage. These highly detailed works are made from plastic cutting she heats and turns to give them the appearance of glass. Veronika is fascinated by this “poor” material, which once worked, may have a very surprising transparency and malleability. Using ingenuity and incredible craftsmanship, Richterová cuts the plastic bottles into pieces and uses the parts to create new forms that transform the original material from plastic trash into stunning objects.

Bottles made from PET and especially from PE are very inspiring for me thanks to their light quality, which is close to glass characteristics. Then it occurred to me that the technique could be called PET-Art. I understood not just as one of my artistic experiments and I had no idea that my pet bottles may become fatal for many years. Since 2004 I have used thousands of pet bottles and created several hundred objects, to which I have developed a number of specific ways of technological processing.
